‘Back to school’ spirit strong among police, too

THE Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will deploy more than 500 officers for the Brigada Eskwela and Balik Eskwela, referring to the activities meant to prepare schools and the opening of classes.

Director Joel Doria said that CCPO will send 223 volunteers to six pilot schools to help in preparing the classrooms for the opening of classes this June.

“Some will be coming from the police office headquarters and some will be from the police stations,” Doria said.

For Balik Eskwela, at least 300 police officers will guard the 99 public and private schools in the city. “The security personnel will be concentrated on schools with many students. There will be police assistance desks and beat patrols in those areas,” Doria said.

To address concerns about gangs that might recruit students, Doria said that police officers are monitoring the areas these groups reportedly frequent. He also advised the parents to report to the police any incidents that are gang-related.

Doria said that they will coordinate with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and barangay officials. “The parents must also do their part in monitoring and guiding their children. As parents, we need to keep a close watch on our children because we are the first ones who’ll notice if there are changes in their behavior,” Doria said. (JOB)
