Ceneco to decide on conversion during general assembly

CENTRAL Negros Electric Cooperative Inc. (Ceneco) president Roy Cordova confirmed Friday that they will bring up with the consumer-members the proposed referendum on the possible conversion of the electric cooperative, either to remain a non-stock, non-profit or a stock and profit cooperative, during its Annual General Membership Assembly on June 30.

"We will submit this to the consumer-members-owners of Ceneco to decide on the matter," Cordova said.

The consumers will have three options which will be decided during the referendum.

These include whether to stay as an electric cooperative under the National Electrification Administration (NEA) like the present, be registered with the Cooperative Development Authority to become a full cooperative or be registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission as a stock cooperative.

The referendum is in compliance with NEA memorandum dated December 5, 2014, which was addressed to all electric cooperatives in the Philippines regarding the approval of Board Resolution No. 204 on the guidelines in the conduct of referendum for electric cooperative conversion.

The memorandum includes choices in holding the referendum:

*Section 25-A of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act 10531 or NEA Reform Act of 2013 mandates all remaining electric cooperatives that are non-stock to conduct a referendum.

Meanwhile, Cordova said that the transparency meeting of Ceneco that is being held once a month will continue.

He made the statement amid the walkout of the three participants in Friday's transparency meeting.

Star Lavilla said that he walked out Friday because of the absence of Ceneco officials during the transparency meeting.

Cordova, who was at his office yesterday, said he was present however he attended a very important matter at his office and that department heads who are in charge of the power rates which was supposed to be the topic in yesterday's meeting were all present.

Lavilla raised some questions before the presentation of the department heads concerned was made.

Cordova said that the transparency meeting will continue because it's a means of informing the consumers-members-owners of what's happening in the electric cooperative. (TDE)
