THE band has been active for a long time and some fans might have children now, or even, grandchildren already.

While having their “Meet and Greet” with fans and a little chat with the media in Café Diem at SM City Iloilo Southpoint on May 25, they shared some of their perception of today's music.

Mike Elgar, the lead guitarist and vocalist of the band, was impressed with the fans that even at present times, the younger generation was able to recognize their songs.

“Noong una, medyo weird ‘yung feeling na nag gi-gig kami around the country may mga nanonood. Dati kasi, may pamilya na e, yung mga old fans ng Rivermaya, kasama na yung mga anak nila nanonood ng concert pero ngayon, aside from them, yung mga 6 or 7 years old kumakanta ng buong set,” he said.

The band was known for songs like Ulan, 214, Kisapmata and more.

They have also changed several vocalists, from Bamboo Manalac to Rico Blanco which both left the band to become solo artists.

The wide range of band's age didn't hinder to continue with their music.

“Pop Rock kami. Kami, technically hindi masyado affected but other bands, maybe.

“We welcome all kinds of music, like pop or ano kahit na let's say na maapektohan kami, okay lang because we appreciate all kinds of music,” Mike said.

For them, music has been their passion even before it became their profession and “it's more than just a hobby.”

“If you have brother or friends na musicians din, maiintindihan niyo kung paano sila ka engrossed with their instruments. I think we don't need any inspirations to continue what we're doing because kung baga, parang it just so happened na trabaho nmin siya even though hindi namin siya naging trabaho we will be as passionate as how we are now,” Mike said.

The band were so happy to contribute with the JCI's project.

“Mag e-enjoy na tayo, makakatulong pa tayo,” Mike said. (Carolyn Jane Abello)
