Reliability and trustworthiness

JUST recently, we were bombarded by information, interpretation and other news pertaining to the national affairs that are at times dubitable.

This caused confusion to the public on who to trust or even rely on. We tend to question the reliability of the witness, the accuracy of the news reports or how trustworthy our government is, in its move towards righteous governance.

Reliability or trustworthiness is the ability to meet one’s expectations of us concerning a given responsibility or assignment. To be called reliable or trustworthy, a person must have gone through a tried, tested and true process to qualify him or her as a good steward or manager.

As the Scripture says, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own? (Luke 16:10-12, NIV)

It is also the ability to handle something properly or accurately - whether tangible things like riches or properties or intangible things like fame, responsibility, assignment, or even the truth.

A reliable friend is someone you can depend on through thick and thin. A reliable parent is one who seeks the welfare of his or her family members even if at times it means disciplining the children so that their life will not come to waste. A reliable family member is someone you could entrust the affairs of your household whenever you are out. A reliable media is one that seeks, delivers and conveys the truth without blemish nor bias. A reliable government is one that leads the nation towards its greatness through righteous governance and selfless service to people.

A great example of this reliability or trustworthiness is Jesus Christ himself.

He gladly took the responsibility and assignment from the Father to redeem man from sinfulness, even up to the point of His death.

He took the form of man even though He is the Son of God.

He humbly submitted himself before the authorities and revealed the resurrection power of God.

He is the One who bridged the gap between men and God so that men can be redeemed into their original mandate.

He finished the assignment accurately. He is the reliable Son.

Reliability and trustworthiness are nouns but it has to be a verb in our lives to come to fruition and manifestation.

These are heavy words where many are called to have, but only a few possess.

This is a time to reflect if we are reliable or trustworthy in every aspect of our lives.

If not, now is the time to change and make the significant difference in our lives. (VRO Action Officer)
