Costanilla: Cosap’s short film

MOVIE. I commend the Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (Cosap) for producing an anti-drug short film, which to me, is a very effective way of stressing the ills of drug use among the young and even the mature ones. Hopefully, the flick could effectively discourage the public from using illegal drugs.

ADVOCACY. Cosap head Garry Lao told me and line producer Anne Angus that the film aims to strengthen his office’s advocacy—to stop, or at least minimize or reduce, the drug trade within the city. “My office’s mandate is to help fight the drug problem in the city and this movie is designed to show the public the need to act as one in achieving such goal,” Lao emphasized.

BARANGAYS. I also appreciate Lao’s plan to screen the production in the city’s north and south barangays, if plans don’t miscarry. This is a very nice idea so that the flick could be seen and appreciated by all barangay residents, some of whom could hardly afford the high ticket prices in cinemas.

STARS. As of this writing, the shooting of the movie is ongoing. Its stars are all true-blue Cebuanos, meaning not even one from Manila is in it. I’m giving Lao and his Cosap staff two thumbs up for this project.

CHEERS. On a personal note, allow me to congratulate Margarito “Gitoy” Ornopia Jr. on his election as barangay captain of Goyong, Borbon. He is the lead founder of the Sugboanong Musikero Inc.
