Buhangin Women's Federation holds educational tour

IN AN effort to benchmark programs that will benefit the women in their community, the Buhangin Women's Federation (BWF) organized its Educational Tour in Metro Manila benefiting the women from 13 barangays from the second district of Davao City.

The participants of the tour visited the Villar Sipag Foundation where they were given a seminar workshop on how to make citronella massage oil, mat, caps, baskets, and crafts and products using water lily. The women were also brought to the foundation's factory where trash and plastic are being recycled.

Luz Visoyo, BWF secretary, said the women at the organization does not want to simply be stay at home women but they also want to participate in the development and improvement of the their respective communities.

In the five-day educational tour, the women were tought various topics and exposed to different projects that they can use to improve their respective livelihood programs in their communities.

"Atong palambuon ang gipahulam nga kwarta sa gobyerno pinaagi sa atong livelihood project (We will use the funds from the government for our livelihood projects)," Rublyn Equia of Barangay Callawa said.

The women also visited the MalacaƱang Palace, the Congress, and were also treated to watch the live show of Eat Bulaga.

The activity was led by BWF president Beverly Besin Ornopia with the support of Davao Second District Representatve Mylene Garcia and officials from the barangays the participants were coming from. The officials covered the airfare and allowances of the participants.

The educational tour was also supported by the Buhangin district II Women's Federation sa Davao City.

Other officers of the BWF inclued Corozaon Amgauin, vice president; Visoyo, secretary; Jovielyn Villarubia and Epifania Bebillo, treasurers; Rubelyn Equia, business auditor; Marilou Sarabia and Stella Garzon, assistant secretaries; PIO Anita Catapusan, Josephine Bulaga, Ivy Marie Ullgue, Lucita Abordo, Grace Mancenido, Emelda Gallego, and Genevieve Sajol.
