6 floodlights installed at Panaad

THE provincial government of Negros Occidental has started the installation of six new floodlights at Panaad Park and Stadium.

According to Engineer Victor Mosende, the stadium in-charge, the PHP46-million worth of floodlights with 36 bulbs are expected to provide an illumination of 1,500 lux.

“This illumination will meet the illumination standard required for the upcoming Asian Football Confederation Cup Asean Zonal Finals in August,” said Mosende.

Negros Occidental Sports Coordinator Angel Verdeflor said that aside from the floodlights, the province is also set to repair its expired track oval.

“It is high time to restore the track oval. Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. has already ordered the submission of the project proposal," Verdeflor said.

"We expect a budget increase because of the adjustments of the imported materials for the track oval but, we will ask the Philippine Sports Commission for the tax exemption,” he added.

Verdeflor also said that the provincial government also intends to expand the East Bleachers of the Panaad Stadium to increase seats.

“With the installation of bolted chairs in the stadium, the seat numbers have decreased to almost half from the original count. However, this will take some time because even if the proposal has been approved, we still have to look for the funds,” he said.

At present, the stadium has more or less 8,000 seats. (HGD)
