Elderly woman dies in fire

A 96-YEAR-OLD woman died in a fire on Burgos St. in Barangay Poblacion, Daanbantayan yesterday morning.

Two other fire incidents happened in Danao City and Argao last Saturday.

In Daanbantayan, the fatality was identified as Marcelina Carbonquillo, who was trapped inside a bungalow-type house.

Her grandchild escaped from the house when the fire broke out at 8:50 a.m.

Investigation showed that the blaze started in the room of Carbonquillo.

The fire was possibly caused by an overheated electric fan, according to the report by investigator SFO1 Eugenio Conde.

The disaster team was responding to a grass fire when the blaze started in Carbonquillo’s house at 8:45 a.m.

The blaze was put out at 9:25 a.m. Conde pegged the damage to the house at P80,000.

Past 3 p.m. last Saturday, a man was arrested for setting his house on fire and for carrying an unlicensed gun in Barangay Cabungahan, Danao City.

Supt. Jaime Quiocho Jr., city police chief, identified the suspect as Celso Camacho, who opened fire his unlicensed M14 rifle.

Camacho will face complaints for arson and illegal possession of firearm before the city prosecutor’s office.

Four hours later, a fire razed a house owned by Flora Arbaradora in Sitio Hayunan, Barangay Jampang, Argao.

Investigation showed that the blaze was caused by an unattended cooking in the kitchen.

No persons were injured in the fire in Danao and Argao. (KAL)
