Newly elected councilor shot dead

A NEWLY-ELECTED councilwoman was gunned down by inside her house in Barangay General Malvar in Pontevedra, Negros Occidental Saturday, May 26.

Salvacion Samson, 51, was having breakfast with her daughter around 9:01 a.m. when the gunman entered the house and approached her.

The gunman told the victim: ”may pinadala di sa imu (someone asked me to bring this to you).”

He then drew his firearm and shot Samson in the head and chest said Senior Inspector Ryan Salazar, Pontevedra police chief.

Samson’s daughter managed to run while the assailant fled on a motorcycle driven by a cohort. Samson was declared dead upon arrival at a hospital.

Salazar said they believe the perpetrators were "guns for hire."

Authorities have yet to identify the assailants and establish their motive.

Salazar said they were looking into the possibility that it could be election-related, although Samson did not report receiving any threat during the election period.

Samson ran for the same position twice. She won in the May 14 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
