THE FAMILY of an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) from Bacolod City is asking the help of the government after they were not able to communicate with her for six years.
Roland Visitacion, son of 59-year-old Yolanda Aniban Visitacion, in an interview with ABS-CBN Bacolod, said his mother went to Saudi Arabia as a tailor in 2008.
He said their last communication with their mother was in 2012 before the latter was transferred to Jeddah as a domestic helper.
"It has been six years since our last conversation," he added.
Roland went to different agencies following a video posted on social media early this month. It showed his mother telling her difficult situation with her employer abroad.
Yolanda, in the video, said she was being maltreated by her employer even if she did not do anything wrong.
She also said her one eye is already blind, and that she cannot almost see the other. She added she did not know the cause.
The video was reportedly uploaded through the help of a Filipina who was doing a catering service at the house of Visitacion's employer.
Meanwhile, the letter of Visitacion's sibling requesting for assistance was already forwarded to the Philippine Overseas Labor in Riyadh on May 14. However, there was no reply yet.
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration already received the same report but cannot give any comment yet as to how long the process will take for the OFW to return home.
Visitacion's family is hoping that Yolanda can be safely rescued and can return home as soon as possible.
Last April, an OFW, Edrelyn Cauntoy, 27, of Bago City, Negros Occidental, went home safely after she also sought the help of her family and authorities in social media. She was allegedly locked up alone by her female employer in a stock room in Jeddah.
