Police eye mayor’s former partners

THE police investigators will look into the past relationships of slain Buenavista, Bohol Mayor Ronald Lowell Tirol as one of these people may have involvement in the crime, a police official said.

Senior Supt. Angeles Geñorga, Bohol Provincial Police Office director, said he had told the members of the special investigation task group to conduct a background check.

Tirol, 37, was not married, but he reportedly bore two children with one of his ex-girlfriends.

Chief Insp. Rully Lauron, the town police chief, said they have received information that Tirol owed a big sum of money to one of his former lovers.

Elmer Melencion and Egmedio Aparece, identified by Tirol’s close-in security, have been charged with murder before the Bohol Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.

Geñorga welcomed the Bohol Provincial Government’s plan to give P300,000 for information that would lead to the arrest of each suspect.

He said the suspects, who have pending murder cases, are still in Bohol and he ordered lower units to intensify checkpoints. The suspects’ pictures were also distributed to police stations.

The police official assured the public that Buenavista is still a peaceful town. (KAL)
