Quijano: Mental fatigue

JERWIN Ancajas vs Jonas Sultan was no Eric Morales-Marco Antonio Barrera in terms of fireworks but it was momentous nonetheless.

For years Pinoy boxing fans were content in seeing their countrymen almost exclusively facing off against foreign counterparts in championship bouts.

Now that the lid is off, we can look forward to intriguing pairings since most Pinoy fighters are bunched up close to each other in the lower weights thereby opening up several possibilities.

We don’t even have to wait too far for a Pinoy vs pinoy sequel. That seminal event will be followed by Donnie Nietes (41-1, 23KOs) vs Aston Palicte (24-2, 20KOs) this August.

NBA. Lebron James has been in this situation before so it’s not yet panic time for Cavaliers fans.

Just a week ago, they were down 0-2 against the Boston Celtics but they eventually prevailed in 7 games.

The obvious problem is that Golden State Warriors are not the Boston Celtics and the defending champions are the worst team to be down 0-2 against.

Coach Tyrone Lue certainly has his work cut out for him. The fatigue that Lebron is feeling is not only physical but also mental.

Out there on the court he’s the one calling the plays, directing teammates, trying to out-strategize one of the most talented bunch of players ever to be assembled.

That he doesn’t have enough help is a given already.

So Lue has to do some of the heavy lifting in the strategy department to try to take off some of the mental load that burdens James.

Game 3 on their homecourt will be a huge boost to their deflated convictions.

VERBATIM. “The reason why Usain Bolt ran faster — there’s many reasons why, but one of the main reasons is because his brain, his nervous system is faster.” Georges St Pierre (MMAFighting.com)

LAST ROUND. It’s on a dear friend, Maristela Castellano-Ostrea who recently celebrated her birthday. Cheers!
