P1.5-M fund distributed to Apalit senior citizens

APALIT -- More than P1.5-million fund from the local government here were distributed to senior citizens of this fourth district town as part of their monthly social pension.

Mayor Peter Nucom personally led the distribution of pension to a total of 1,050 indigent senior citizens coming from the twelve barangays here in a simple pay-out ceremony held at the Municipal Multi-Pupose Hall.

Nucom said that each senior citizens received a total of P1,500 to cover the second quarter of the year, wherein they must receive P500 per month.

Nucom said that the beneficiaries were the needly elderly of the town who most need of assistance as they and their families have no permanent source of income.

“This is just a small amount, but P500 a month can already help in the purchase of their maintenance medicines or for their groceries and foods,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nucom urged to the senior citizens to engage themselves on fruitful recreational activities that will help them seized their lives.

“Your participation in the work force is over and much appreciated. Now is the time for you to enjoy your life. You can do zumba, go to the mall or have coffee with friends. Don’t wait for the time when you cannot even stand from your bed,” he said.

Nucom said that the Municipal Office of Senior Citizens offers various activities that can be enjoyed by elderly, such as zumba, field trips and fellowship activities.
