Oro’s Alcantara on a roll in doubles tennis campaign

CAGAYAN de Oro City pride Francis Casey Alcantara and Chinese partner Faijing Sun ruled the US$ 25,000 China F8 Futures doubles tournament on Saturday at the Ningxia Stadium, Yinchuan in China.

Alcantara and Sun, both top seeds in the doubles matches, nailed the crown after outlasting the duo of Kento Takeuchi of Japan and Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul of Thailand in the deciding third set.

The Fil-Chinese pair drew first blood with a 6-4 win in the first set, but it was not all so easy for them all the way.

Takeuchi and Trongcharoenchaikul refused to close the match as they rebounded with a 6-2 victory in the next set and forced a do-or-die rubber match in the third and final set.

Experience paved the way for Alcantara and his partner as they blasted their way in scoring six service points to seal the crown via 10-5 win in the deciding set.

This is the second title for Alcantara and fourth time pairing with Sun in his campaigns this year.

He first notched his first title when he teamed up with Filipino-American Collin Altamirano during the TF Pro Circuit Singapore F2 Futures held at Kallang Tennis Center in Singapore recently.
