UNFLATTERING reports of garbage in the city's coastal barangays sent Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio urging the private sector to include clean-up drives among their corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs.
The mayor, during a brief ceremony on June 12, said: “We encourage private companies to conduct their own corporate social responsibility projects like coastal clean-up."
The private sector will be partnered with the Bantay Dagat, a group formed to collect trash by the coast. For the month of May, they said they filled 3,000 sacks of garbage collected from coastal communities.
Dabawenyos were also told to practice proper waste disposal after news that these collected garbage were carried by floodwaters from central districts.
“I would like to remind everyone to practice re-using and recycling to reduce our waste, and I would like to remind everyone also not to throw away their trash just anywhere,” she said.
She said proper practice of waste disposal is among the contribution that each Dabawenyo can do for the city and for the environment.
