OVER a thousand village officials, including 41 village chiefs, in Cagayan de Oro administered their oath of office before Mayor Oscar Moreno and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Friday, June 15.

Duterte-Carpio, who was the guest speaker of the event, shared some pointers to the barangay officials and urged them to initiate programs and projects directed towards responsible parenthood and family planning.

She also advised them to start an early planning of their projects so funds will be readied for its implementation.

“I hope sa inyong barangay mahunahuna-an ninyo nga magbuhat ug mga activities ug projects nga (in your barangays you will think of activities and programs) directed towards that responsible parenthood, to ensure that your constituents are in school, address teenage pregnancy, kadtong mga constituents na naglisod nga unta makahuman sila ug eskwela (those constituents who are having a hard time to finish school),” she said.

“My experience as mayor sa atong mga kapitan, naa silay project, buhatan nila ug resolution then gusto nila pa-aprobahan dayon sa mayor. Lisod kaayo na buhaton, so my advice, nga pagsugod sa inyong term this July, immediately on the first week gyud pagplano namo (the captains have their projects, they create resolution then they ask for approval from the mayor, that’s hard to do. So my advice is when starting your term this July, you should plan immediately) for 2019, 2020, 2021 for your projects so that maka-ready mi asa ta makapangita asa ang sources ana (we can be ready in looking for sources for that),” she said.

Duterte-Carpio stressed the importance of building a strong relationship with the private sector, saying they can help fund the proposed projects.

The Presidential daughter also thanked Kagay-anons for their outpouring support during the 2016 elections.

Duterte-Carpio, who was at least two hours late for the oath-taking event, shared that replying to Senator Antonio Trillanes' tirades against her was what got her late.
