THE Sans Rival place is already a given, but you can't go visit a place far from home and just be content to sit down in one place, right?
So, here's somewhere you can have your dose of selfies and yes, food, when in Dumaguete City.
Gabby's Bistro at Florentina Homes in Bantayan, Dumaguete just a very short ride from the airport.
It's a well-known place for its quirky architecture and interiors, so you will not have difficulty in finding it... and yes, Google Maps and Waze help a lot. But, the place is better known as the Florentina Homes at Cimafranca Subdivision. So remember that and go ask a trike driver to bring you there.
Gabby's is named after its chef, Gabby, the owner's son whom we were told either studied culinary or had a culinary stint in Europe. But that was just the “kwento,” I don't know.
Big groups are best off in the inner sanctum as the Bistro's Veranda that gives you a view of Rana Verge, the “plaza” featuring local art talents only have cafe tables.
The outer part of the airconned restaurant also has small tables by the windows. The inner sanctum gives you longer tables, and we were a big group of hungry divers.
Gabby's has bistro food, full meals that come in HUGE servings. I was wary about the servings after seeing what were on the other people's tables, and so I opted to order the chicken wings appetizers instead for lunch. Wrong. It was just as HUGE. Their rice serving is like 1-1/2 cups.
My other companions ordered set meals from beef to chicken to fish. All had difficulty consuming their whole plate. Meaning, it's best to come over to Gabby's when you are really, really hungry.
By the way, it's a bistro, not a fastfood, so don't expect quick service as each order is cooked only after you ordered them. If you expect fastfood, go to a fastfood. If you want to experience Gabby's, come over, you will surely enjoy it. It's a feast not just to the tummy.
