DPWH hopes to start Mandaue underpass in July

NO road will need to be closed when the public works agency begins building an underpass on Mandaue City’s United Nations Ave., an official said.

Director Ador Canlas of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7 said that before the start of the P790-million project, the agency will again call for a stakeholders’ conference.

Canlas said that the contractor has submitted the project design, including a traffic management plan, and it is now under review by DPWH before it will be presented to stakeholders in Cebu.

“We are looking at July to start the implementation of the UN Ave. underpass project. But before that, we will call a stakeholders’ meeting to present the traffic management plan, project design, and everything,” Canlas said.

Some officials of the Regional Development Council (RDC) have urged the DPWH to reconsider any plan to close UN Ave. in implementing the project, because to do so would inconvenience commuters and harm the local economy.

Canlas said that DPWH has presented the traffic management plan to the Mandaue City Government and RDC.

“We won’t close UN Ave. during the underpass implementation and we are providing additional routes,” Canlas said. (EOB)
