Porac mayor optimistic about tourism prospects

PORAC town Mayor Condralito dela Cruz is optimistic that all his administration’s efforts to place the town in the scope of the eco-tourism radar will be realized as he ends his stint as municipal mayor.

Dela Cruz, who is serving his third and last term, said that much effort has been given in making people realize the many eco-tourism potentials of Porac. Among the town’s destinations are the unspoiled environs of Miyamit Falls.

Miyamit Falls is 13 kilometers or an hour-and-a-half away from the poblacion of Porac via a four-by-four vehicle. It is a series of mini-water falls ending in two towering falls approximately 30 to 35 feet high.

Located in Barangay Sapang Uwak, it is a safe place to discover but challenging to tourists who love rock climbing. The road to Miyamit Falls breaks away or splits from the 28-kilometer Porac Trail. It is a steep, narrow downhill track with tough curves daring even the best four-by-four enthusiasts.

Dela Cruz also expressed optimism on the potential of the Porac Peak, a superb viewing site standing near the world-famous Mt. Pinatubo. It is also a window to the Porac ranges, the Mancatian River in the east and to the water tributaries of Zambales in the west. It is a two-hour ride from the municipal hall via a 28-kilometer zigzag road.

Dela Cruz said that Porac also provides an alternate route to the Pinatubo crater.

The mayor added that his administration had somehow managed to put attention into these potentials but more work remains to be done to really achieve for Porac the reputation as an eco-tourism destination.

The mayor vowed to exert more effort to promote the tourism potential of Porac while still in office.

Dela Cruz had asked the support of Senator Bam Aquino in promoting the tourism potential of the eco destinations here, most specially Miyamit falls, the province’s last remaining high waterfall.

Dela Cruz raised the concern during Aquino’s visit to the town recently in which the Senator responded favorably.

Dela Cruz said that the eco-tourism potential of Porac town is not easily ignored.

In 2011, top government officials led 56 individuals who explored the new 22-kilometer route that gives Pampanga an access to the famous Mount Pinatubo crater that passes through Miyamit Falls.
