Motorela fare hike a bad news for ‘colorum’ units

“IF YOU thought the motorela fare hike was all good news, then you were wrong, because this might also be the end for some 2,000 motorelas reportedly operating here freely unregistered and undocumented.”

Saying this, Cagayan de Oro City Administrator Teddy Sabuga-a explained that the newly-approved fare hike will also benefit not only the motorela drivers and operators, but also the City Government.

“This way, it will be easier for the City Government to regulate the increasing numbers of motorela and address the supposed unregistered ones,” he said.

Sabuga-a said the fare tariff has not been released yet to ensure that certain points of the regulations will not be missed.

We will not allow nga ang tarrif i-photocopy lang pareha sa niagi, dapat ang original gyud," he said.

"It's not a delay but it is part of the process, because it has to go through the admin processes, the legal office, actually it's already approved but we still conducted several meetings to really implement the law," he added.

Sabuga-a said the copy of the tariffs that will be issued to motorela operators will contain a unique seal. They will also prohibit the photocopying of the tariff document.

The distribution of the tariff will start this week, he said, and the apprehension of colorum drivers will also immediately start.

Sonny Hinosolango, a member of the Macasandig Operators and Drivers Association (MAODA) and lead convener of the Alyansa-MP3 (Makatarunganong Pletehan alang sa Pamilya ug Pasahero), has welcomed this move that will help increase the earnings of the legal motorela operators in the city.

"Wala man mi angay kahadlokan kay mga legal man kami, ang angayan nga mahadlok kadtong giingong illegal na mga motorela," said Hinosolango, who is excited for the immediate implementation of the fare hike.
