Dormakaba routs Rain or Shine

TOP seed Dormakaba bounced back from last week’s upset and advanced to the semifinals of the Architects+Engineers Basketball Club Corporate Cup 2018 with a 88-42 beatdown of Rain or Shine last Saturday night in the University of San Carlos (USC) Main Gym.

Rain or Shine scored the biggest upset of the tournament, handing Dormakaba its first defeat, 81-77. Dormakaba, luckily, had a twice-to-beat edge from being a top-seeded team.

Dormakaba didn’t put that advantage to waste as it immediately dominated Rain or Shine in the first half. Dormakaba outscored Rain or Shine, 19-10, in the first quarter and then led by 22 points at halftime after outscoring Rain or Shine, 19-6.

The lead ballooned to 36 points, 61-25, after three quarters and then came a 46-point victory for Dormakaba, which outscored Rain or Shine, 27-17, in the final period.

Neil Benedicto, Ed Macasling, and Eric Pummer made up for their absence in the quarterfinals loss to Rain or Shine. Benedicto led Dormakaba with 18 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Macasling, on the other hand, had 14 markers, six boards, two dimes, and two steals. Pummer almost logged a double-double with 10 points and nine assists, along with three steals and a block. Klever Tomongha added 12 points.

Joy Salvador was the only Rain or Shine player in double-digit scoring with 17 points. He grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out three assists but also had six turnovers. Raymond Verano and Duane Anino chipped in nine and eight points, respectively.

In the knockout semifinals, Dormakaba takes on defending champion SEA Olympus in a rematch of last year’s Corporate Cup finals, while Fenestram faces off with Island Paints. (EKA)
