THE University of San Carlos will lose top scorer John Reel Saycon for the rest of the pre-season tournament after he figured in a fight with Tristan Albina of the University of the Visayas in the Partners’ Cup last Sunday.

Saycon and UV’s Tristan Albina got heated late in the fourth quarter, when both got physical and dropped each other to the floor. Albina grabbed his jaw, while Saycon writhed in pain from an apparent blow to the body. He was slow to get up but after he recovered, he charged into UV’s bench and threw a punch at Albina. Both teams got into a scuffle until cooler heads prevailed.

USC, which won its first two games, lost badly to UV, 94-67, and its season is in jeopardy with the loss of their top player. Aside from the ban, Saycon will have to pay a P5,000 fine andserve four hours of community service before he gets to return to action.

Meanwhile, UV will gun for its second straight win when it takes on the University of San Jose Recoletos today.

UV looked impressive with its new import Lassina Coulibaly, who dominated the paint and led the Green Lancers with 24 points. Former MVP Rey Suerte was also on point and scored 16 points, including three shots from beyond the arc.

USJ-R is still in search of its first win of the tournament after two close defeats in its first two contests. The Jaguars lost to USC, 60-56, in their opener and then lost to the University of Cebu, 84-81.

UV will face USJ-R in the juniors division at 5:15 p.m. UV split its first two games, while USJ-R lost its first two. (EKA)
