THE cousin of Western Visayas drug lord Ramy Poja was gunned down by an unidentified lone gunman on a motorcycle at San Sebastian Street in Barangay 13, Bacolod City Monday morning.

Killed was Salvador Poja Jr., 33, of Sitio Sibucao, Barangay Banago. He was a Zumba fitness instructor and a collector for an appliance store.

Chief Inspector Sherlock Gabana, deputy chief of Police Community Relations (PCR) of the Bacolod City Police Office, said Poja was on his way to work around 8:21 a.m. when the assailant, who was wearing a white shirt, fired at him at close range.

He was walking alone, few meters away from his workplace, when he was followed by the assailant. Poja succumbed to three gunshot wounds on his neck and forehead.

The gunman, who was not wearing a helmet, then fled.

Police recovered from the scene a fired cartridge of an unknown firearm.

Gabana said they have yet to establish the motive but he claimed that it was not drug-related.

He said the victim has no threats based on the statements of his family.

Police have already reviewed a copy of the closed circuit television camera footage in the area to help them in the investigation.

He said there were witnesses in the area when the incident happened, Gabana said, adding that they are conducting an intensive investigation.

Gabana also said that they already have a lead on the possible identity of the perpetrator.

On May 24, Ramy Poja and his group engaged in a shootout with police operatives in Barangay Banago after they were seen in the village, allegedly hiding at Salvador's house.

The shootout led to the death of Ramy, 36, and his cousin Roberto Lim, both high-value targets, while his companion, Rusty Constantino got injured in the encounter.
