BSU awards students best researches

BENGUET State University through the Research and Extension sector recognized 10 student theses as Best Research Papers during the 3rd University Student Research Congress held in on June 7, 2018.

The 10 student research papers are among the 46 theses that competed during the event. Nineteen competed for the Science and Technology category and 18 for the Social category in the undergraduate level while 9 competed for the social category in the graduate level.

In the undergraduate level Science and Technology category, the 1st Best Research Papers are “Design Fabrication and Performance Evaluation of a Motorized Cocoon Deflossing Machine” by Lester Clyde Angel and Joanna Cadao and “Water Yield of a Fog Harvester as Affected by Mesh Material and its Orientation by Donalyn Macaburas and Diostonee Balintee.

The 2nd Best Research Paper is “Preemptive Management Approach of Coffee Berry Borer (Hypothenemus hampei Ferrari) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) in Arabica Coffee (Coffea arabica Linnaeus) at Atok, Benguet” by Jimmer John C. Bisaya.

The 3rd Best Research Paper is “Mycelial growth of Scleroderma sp. As affected by Culture Media by Winslet J. Ramos.

In the undergraduate level social category, the 1st Best Research Paper is “Living Outside the Bars: Lived Experiences of Family Members of Offenders” by Guerly Joy Bab-ating, Kreanjel Lei Guinto, and Chelsea Mae Kim.

The 2nd Best Research Paper is “Understanding the Practice of Pasuplay System on Vegetable Production in Madaymen, Kibungan, Benguet by Roji Mae Lorenzo.

The 3rd Best Research Paper is “Purging the Tunnels Decision – Making Process of Kabayan Indigenous Peoples Community on Hydro Electric Power Project (HEPP)” by Aurita Budikey.

In the graduate level Social category, the 1st Best Research Paper is “Training Design Facilitation Framework for Audit Education: An Application of Andragogy” by Joanne Aliping.

The 2nd Best Research Paper is “Multi-grade Intermediate Mathematics Teaching Schemes: The Case of Tublay” by Jorenz Belleza.

The 3rd Best Research Paper is “Mobile Learning and its Effect to the Performance of Grade 9 Students in Unreal Condition” by Warren Ambat.

The winners during the event were given certificates of recognition and will be receiving cash prizes in which 1st prize is P6,000, 2nd prize is P5,000 and 3rd prize is 4,000.

According to Dr. Carlito Laurean, vice president for Research and Extension, the winners in the undergraduate level will also attend the Regional Student Research Congress to be held in Kalinga State University sometime July 2018.

During the activity, Dr. Felina Espique, one of the evaluators in the paper presentation, commended the advisers of the students because the theses presented have surpassed their expectation as evaluators. She also congratulated the University for continuously enhancing the research culture in the Cordillera region.

The students also thanked the University for recognizing student theses through conducting research congress as it provides them the avenue to present their outputs.

Dr. Laurean also encouraged the students to continue conducting research in the practice of their respective profession and also try to submit research proposals to various funding agencies within and outside the country.
