Top cop to intensify Kalinga weed ops

POLICE Regional Office-Cordillera (PRO-COR) director Chief Superintendent Rolando Nana vowed to intensify operations against illegal drugs in the region.

Nana said the recurring problem of marijuana production in Kalinga will be addressed with an increased surveillance by both the PNP and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

The police director said he hopes cultivators, transporters and couriers would be apprehended soon to rid the province of the illegal weed.

The PRO-COR top cop said an intensified monitoring effort will be done to discover who wants, transports and sells.

Nana added crime situation in the region is still favorable with crime volume going done by 18.59 percent since the last quarter.

Kalinga has been a perennial hotspot for cultivation as well as sale and transport for marijuana and has become a narco tourist spot among users and dealers.

The last anti marijauana drive in Kalinga saw anti-narcotics agent burning of P9.022 million worth of Cannabis plants last May.

In Barangay Loccong, Tinglayan, Kalinga, government troops discovered an 800-square-meter plantation and destroyed 3,200 pieces of fully-grown marijuana plants worth P640,000.
