Taking that perfect selfie

Taking that perfect selfie

EVER since front cameras in cellphones and social media existed, taking a selfie has become the norm. A selfie is a self-portrait taken with a smartphone and oftenn uploaded to a social media website. Not only can a selfie document one’s special event or memorable day but it is also a fun way to show the world one’s confidence, fashion sense and personality. Plus, it allows your friends and families to comment on, like and react on your picture.

How many clicks does it take to get that one perfect selfie? A lot! Selfies can be taken as many times as one wants until he is satisfied with the photo. Here are more tips on how to perfect that selfie.

Find your angle.

Know your own angles. Know what your best angle is and go with that. The Queen of Selfies, Kim Kardashian, said in one of her interviews that when it comes to selfies, always take your selfie from above, angling down. “I think there’s nothing worse than when someone wants to take a selfie and they take it from the angle down below and get some double chin action,” she said. In addition, experiment with different angles to show off your features.

Good lighting is the key.

Just like for any other kind of photograph, a solid light source is an essential for taking selfies. Take your selfie near a window or outdoors because natural light is the most flattering kind as it renders more colors that will brighten and soften your features. Keep the light source in front of you, a bit above eye level. And take note, do not use flash as much as possible because it will distort your appearance, create unwanted light on the forehead and possibly give you the red-eye effect.

Flash a real smile.

If you don’t like to look bad in your photos, then flaunt your natural smile because it will show if you force a grin. But if you’re going for a more serious selfie or want to look fierce, then pull a Tyra and try smiling with your eyes (or “smize” as she calls it). How to perfect the smize? Practice in front of the mirror and work it! Or if you’re going for a more happy selfie, then say “yay” in your head and think about happy thoughts or say “yas” if you want to be extra sassy.

Don’t over-edit.

Have you ever read a meme that goes “Stop editing your pics. What if you go missing? How can we find you if you look like Beyonce on Facebook and look completely different in person?” You get the message? Editing your photos is not a sin but just do not overdo it to the point that it looks unnatural. After all, selfies are about you. So be you!

Just enjoy taking selfies.

Just enjoy! A trying-too-hard-selfie is never going to be a good one and the best poses are the ones that come naturally.
