MAXBOAT Marine launched the first Water Bus in Cebu last Monday at the Republic Drydock in Danao City.

The sea transport service known as the Water Bus 1 is the first out of 20 to operate in the province. Maxboat aims to help Cebuanos travel without the hassle of going though traffic jams.

Chief executive officer Barbara Salmero said the heavy traffic was what made them start the project, saying the problem is bad, especially for tourists. “That is why we have the Water Bus, so they would have another option for transport around Cebu, without going through the traffic jam,” said Salmero, a naval architect.

Water Bus has a capacity of 70 and an average speed of 21 knots and can travel from Cebu City to Oslob and Santander in less than two hours. It offers rides to Talisay City, Minglanilla, City of Naga, and Dalaguete. The northbound routes include Liloan, Danao City, and Bogo City, and other towns. (Vanessa de Gracia, CNU Intern)
