New weighing bridge to allow CH to monitor garbage collection

THE Cebu City Government can now better monitor the collection output of garbage loaders in the barangays.

Albatech, a private service provider of heavy equipment, turned over to the City a new weighing bridge in the Inayawan landfill service area yesterday.

It has a capacity of 80 tons and cost the City P2.5 million. Councilor Eugenio Gabuya Jr., committee on public services head, said it has been nearly two years since the City had an operational weighing bridge for garbage hauling.

“This is important because the City spends a lot for garbage collection. Now, we will know if the amount we are paying is correct. At the same time, we will know if the barangays are collecting garbage,” he said.

The City Government is paying Pasajero Motors Corp. P1,248 for every ton of garbage it disposes of.

Although it has an average garbage collection of 650 tons a day, the city has been generating only 530 tons of trash daily in the past months.

“With the weighing bridge, we will know which barangay is not collecting garbage,” Gabuya said. (RTF)
