BAGUIO City has started preparations for the Batang Pinoy National Finals which will be held in different venues around the city on September 15 to 21.

City Sports coordinator Gaudencio Gonzales affirmed Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) representatives have already started inspecting the playing venues to be used by the athletes for the upcoming national finals since last week.

Some of the confirmed venues that will be used are the Baguio Athletic Bowl for athletics, the Baguio swimming pool facility for swimming, University of the Cordilleras gymnasium for indoor volleyball, Saint Louis University for basketball; the Beneco Multi-Purpose Hall for chess; University of the Philippines Baguio for table tennis, and the Engineer’s Hill covered court for Pencak Silat.

“The PSC representatives were done inspecting some of the facilities and the playing venues and there has not been any problems during the first inspection. Another batch of representatives will be arriving to inspect the rest,” said Gonzales.

Gonzales added that more than 3,000 athletes are expected to arrive in Baguio on September to compete with their fellow athletes from different regions in the country.

The top five winners in the Batang Pinoy leg in the individual categories and top three winners in the team category will be competing in the national finals.

Since Baguio City bagged last year’s Batang Pinoy Luzon leg overall championship in Vigan, children athletes from the city will be competing in Archery, Arnis, Taekwando, and Boxing.

The Batang Pinoy is a national youth sports competition held in the country since 2011 for both the students and the out-of-school children who are below 15 years old. (Zoe Ramores/UP Baguio Intern)
