San Simon mayor underscores youth program importance

SAN Simon Mayor Leonora Wong underscored on June 19 the importance of investing programs for the youth whom she considers the "hope for a more developed future of San Simon."

During the second wave of distribution of financial assistance to students, Wong said the local government continues to prioritize youth development programs that will help mold Simonian youth to become a better citizen.

One of the most prioritized youth development projects is the continuous awarding of scholarship grants to poor but deserving students of San Simon, Wong said.

“We continuously invest on our youth, especially on their education, because we see how the big the role it will play on the future of our town. With well-molded and disciplined youth now, we are assured that our sacrifices and investment today will be successfully reaped tomorrow,” she said.

Wong also noted that education is also the key for the success of the youth, including their families and communities.

The mayor urged the beneficiaries to maximize assistance being extended to them by the local government by aiming for excellent grades.

“I always remind them to avoid any distraction and focus on their studies first. The right person, and any other leisure activities can easily be accomplished once you become successful,” she said.

During the ceremony, a total of 1,600 college students received half of their annual scholarship grants amounting to P5,000 each.

The recipients are part of the 3,200 scholars of the local government who were chosen by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development based on their families’ income.
