Iligan’s Padilla sparkles in Tatap table tennis tilt

ILIGAN City’s Jared Padilla and four others shared the spotlight in the TATAP Region 10 Table Tennis Tournament on Sunday at the Amphi Theatre, Barangay 6 in Cagayan de Oro.

The 18-year-old Padilla, erstwhile table tennis ace of De La Salle Iligan now suiting up for the San Beda Red Lions, ruled the class B section.

He copped the division title after besting Sheen Leafar Deus in three sets to one in their final match.

Deus landed second place, while Ricky Duroy and the youngest participant in the section Nino Neri shared third place.

Padilla’s hometown fellow JR Sazon dominated the class division with the same 3-1 finish against Jamaica Escriber in the final.

Escriber settled for second place, while Robert Chong and Frerose Abastillas occupied joint third.

The fast-rising Neri, Oro’s top age group bet, was not only finishing third in the higher section in class B, but reigned champion in the 12-under after beating the younger Emmanuel Paculba in three straight sets in the final.

Paculba bagged the second place, while Escriber and Bethel Joyce Sadora were tied at third spot.

Like Neri, Paculba also captured the 8-under boys jewel after topping the round robin format.

Rosewell Abastillas claimed the second prize, while Uziel Rey Salindro and Ryan Ardenio went third.

El Salvador City’s Jaxhtine Gayrra Yucada finished first in the 8-under girls, while Princes Reyes followed at second.

Criselle Dafodil Oclarit and Kyle Antonette Mercado came third.
