Legaspi: Road to politics or political roads?

IT SEEMS that the City of Bacolod is out to get the “Most Developed City award" and “The City with the Best (beast) roads award” in the next Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) awards. Or are there awards like these?

Take a good look at our roads, especially the national roads. They were in “good condition” before they were turned into dinosaur roads in the name of development and progress.

The road to Mansilingan is almost done while now a dinosaur or as a dragon is destroying the roads in Alijis.

While traveling in the city, I saw that other metallic dragons and dinosaurs are also devouring the major streets in Bacolod all in the name of progress and development.

Who is not for progress and development? I guess all of us are working out for progress and development. We would like to see our city grew into one of the premier cities in the world. Roads and trade routes are factors for development.

In the olden times, the tribe’s leader should pave a road for business and trade. It was then a great welcome for the community for members have now roads or routes yet.

Today, wherever you go, road reconstructions are everywhere. New and good roads are paved in the name of development. The old and destroyed roads are not seen as good constructions.

Good roads, at least in the eyes of the ordinary persons, are being devoured by dragons and dinosaurs. The worst thing is that they make the roads during the rainy season. Is this for a purpose or nagkataon lang?

A friend of mine shared with me that dragons and dinosaurs are reptiles. Thus, they need water all the time. This is the reason why the road construction is done this time of the year.

Kidding aside, I suspect something fishy here. Not that there will be ponds all over but there is something wrong going on.

A few years ago, a road south of Bacolod was repaired due to the fact that the office of a certain congressman found out that the roads were not of quality. Substandard materials were used.

Nobody was charged because of substandard materials. Three years after, the same road was once again excavated for the same reason. Materials used were substandard. Again, no one was charged.

This year again, the roads in the same area were excavated for the same reason. Who will be charged this time? It is not the politicians or government agency or the contractors that suffer from a blatant mismanagement. It is the people in the area that suffers. We pay our taxes for good and not to be wasted by substandard contractors.

I dare the local officials to file charges against previous contractors for using substandard materials.

However, if no one gets to jail for this stupidity, then where are your balls? This is a waste of money and a waste of resources.

I dare the graft commissions and moralists to speak against this blatant corruption in our midst. A dare you to speak against this stupidity all over the country. Good roads are reconstructed everywhere while old roads are never repaired.

I also dare the people to stop this stupidity and call for justice. There is a great injustice here in building and rebuilding these political roads.

Evil continues to persist because good men do nothing.
