DILG eyeing more barangays to be declared drug-free

DEPARTMENT of Interior and Local Government (DILG) provincial director Carmelo Orbista said yesterday, June 20, they are eying more barangays in the province to be declared free from illegal drugs.

The DILG made the emphasis yesterday during the Orientation for drug clearing operation which they jointly sponsored with the Provincial Government attended by the Oversight Committee of the local government units in the province.

Orbista pointed out that there are only a few barangays in the province that were declared drug cleared so they want to increase their numbers.

The latest to be declared as drug cleared are 15 barangays in Pulupandan and that there are also barangays in Silay City, Himamaylan, and Kabankalan that will also soon be declared drug-free.

The orientation, Orbista said, is intended to the newly elected barangay officials who are set to assume office on July 1.

"So there will be a new composition of the Barangay Anti Drug Council so we want to make them aware of their respective roles," Orbista added.

“We want to increase the numbers of the barangays that are declared drug cleared,” he added.
