Mayor celebrates 62nd birthday with mass wedding

ILOILO City Mayor Jose Espinosa III celebrated his birthday June 20 with a mass wedding for 62 couples at Ker Building beside City Hall a day before.

He officiated the matrimonial rites to couples as young as 19 and as old as 66 years old who were beneficiaries of the program “Pag-ulikid sa Kasal kag Pamilya.”

“Wedding is very important in your life. After this marriage, you will be one. I really like this celebration because through this we are making a family, because family is our basic social institution, and government should see to it that we will enhance and protect our families. This is a happy occasion just for you, congratulations to one and all,” Espinosa said.

Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon, represented by his son Rudolph Jeffrey, also shared inspirational message to the couples.

“The most difficult thing to deal with on your marriage is what we call understanding. We should always give space to our wife for us to understand them. As husbands, we should always have commitment, which means no secrets at all,” Rudolph said.

Councilors Candice Magdalane Tupas and Ely Estante gave their motivating messages to the couples.

“The most important thing that we should know in marriage is that, we should love and understand each other. If you love a person, you should always be ready to sacrifice everything for that person,” Tupas said.

“I wish that all of you as husband and wife will love, care and understand each other no matter what happen and stay forever as couples. Congratulations and best wishes,” Estante said.

The successful endeavor was organized by the City Population Office and City Civil Registration Office. (PR)
