Another man dies in Cebu as lightning strikes

A YOUNG man died after he was struck by lightning on Thursday afternoon, June 21, in a mountain village in Toledo City, Cebu.

Fil Abenoja Gelig, 19, a resident of Sitio All Seasons, Barangay Cogon Pardo, Cebu City, was with a group of carolers in a mountain barangay of General Climaco, when the incident happened.

It was raining around 2 p.m. when Gelig took shelter under a tree. The lightning struck the branches first before hitting Gelig.

Police Officer 1 Mark Anthony Salvacion said, the young man succumbed to burns in different parts of his body.

His friend brought him to the city's public hospital where he was declared dead.

This is the second incident in Cebu province where a lightning took the life of a person.

On Tuesday afternoon, June 19, Larry Bajenting, 42, died after he was struck by lightning while he was watching a television show inside his house in Barangay Canbanua, Argao, Cebu.
