THE planned unification of rival political groups United Negros Alliance (Unega) and Love Negros is being tested in the upcoming Liga nga mga Barangay elections.
Second District Board Member Salvador Escalante Jr., Unega secretary-general, said they will back the re-election bid of Liga Ng Mga Barangay incumbent provincial president, Anabelle Bermudo of La Carlota City.
Victorias City Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca, on the other hand, said Love Negros will field Barangay Daan Banwa Punong Barangay Jovie Tepillo for the same position.
Tepillo is the executive director of Victorias City Drug Foundation.
The Provincial Liga Ng Mga Barangay election has not been set by the Department of Interior and Local Government. In the town and city level, the election is set on July 16.
Palanca said he has already talked to some potential ABC Presidents in some localities in the province who already pledged support for Tepillo.
