1 dead, elderly woman injured in wake shooting

A MAN died while an elderly woman was injured after an unidentified man shot them at a wake in Barangay 2, Bacolod City Wednesday night.

Killed was Radito Bolneo, 30, of Barangay 29 while wounded was Rosemarie Seva, 64, of Barangay 3.

Inspector Florentino Abalayan, deputy chief of Police Station 2, said Bolneo was playing a card game in the wake when one of the three assailants arrived and fired at him at close range with a .45 caliber pistol.

Bolneo succumbed to two gunshot wounds on his chest while Seva, who was also at the area at that time was hit by a stray bullet on her hip.

Seva is confined at a hospital.

The gunman then fled together with his two other companions on board a motorcycle.

Police recovered from the scene a fired cartridge case and a slug of the said firearm.

Abalayan said they already have persons of interest but he refused to divulge their identities as of press time.

Police are eyeing illegal drugs and revenge as possible motives behind Bolneo’s death.

Abalayan said illegal drugs is one of the angles because the area is considered drug-affected. He, however, clarified that Bolneo is not included in their drugs watchlist.

Abalayan said they are waiting for a witness to surface to identify the gunman and his two companions. (GYM/SunStar Bacolod)
