Outgoing Calamba village councilor shot

AN OUTGOING village councilor of Calamba, Cebu City was shot by an unidentified gunman in Sitio Mahayahay, this village Friday afternoon.

The victim was identified as Hildibrando Ygonia while a resident, Rowena Pepito, was allegedly hit by a stray bullet.

Chief Inspector Allan Rosario, chief of the San Nicolas Police, said that the councilor is active in his support to the anti-illegal drugs campaign of the police.

"Very active ni siya sa campaign against illegal drugs nato sya raman permi halimbawa naay dakop ang tropa siya permi matawag mo witness sa inventory very active gyud siya," Rosario said.

The San Nicolas Police Station received the alarm at 5:28 p.m. from a concerned citizen who saw the incident.

Authorities said that the victim was shot a few meters away from his house while the unknown assailant walked towards an interior portion of the area after the incident.

The victims were rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC).

Days before the May village elections, Ygonia, asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to declare his barangay as a hotspot after an armed unidentified person threatened him last April 17.

His house was also vandalized.

He was also detained by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 7 after a service of search warrant which yielded a caliber .45 pistol and a caliber .38 revolver last March 23.

He was released after posting bail and denied that he was involved in illegal drugs. Investigators are looking into the angles of personal grudge and that the shooting incident may be drug-related.
