Pink personalities

TODAY is National Pink Day when people celebrate the color pink and everything it represents. More than what it plainly is, there are actually a few fictional characters and artists who embody the color in their own unique ways. Let’s get to know six of these “pink personalities” as we join in on this celebration.

Elle Woods from “Legally Blonde”

If you’re fond of romantic comedies, then you must be familiar with “Legally Blonde.” Reese Witherspoon plays Elle Woods, a fashionable sorority queen who wears a lot of pink. In the entire movie, Elle is clad in all-things pink, from her head down to her toes. But we all know she wasn’t just this fashionable blonde. After being dumped by her boyfriend, Elle followed him to law school as she was determined to win him back. Her entire journey lead to a self-discovery that she was more than just her looks: She had the potential to be the greatest lawyer there is.

The Plastics from “Mean Girls”

“On Wednesdays we wear pink!” Karen exclaimed. This is probably one of the famous lines in the movie where almost everyone who watched “Mean Girls,” followed this rule in real life. Who can forget about the Plastics, right? Everyone either loved or hated them. They were known to be the A-list girl clique at their school. Regina, Gretchen and Karen were labeled as the mean girls who recruited new girl, Cady. At first, Cady was in it for revenge, but the more she hung out with the Plastics, she later found herself to be one too.

“Pink Panther”

This famous cartoon character appears in the opening and closing credit sequences in most of the “Pink Panther” movies. The name Pink Panther actually refers to the valuable pink diamond in the original film where its flaw showed a “figure of a springing panther.” After the fictional animated character gained popularity, “Pink Panther” had its own franchise of theatrical shorts, television cartoons and merchandise.

Pink

Alecia Beth Moore, or more popularly known by her stage name Pink, is an American singer, songwriter, dancer and actress. She adopted her stage name at 14 years old when she was performing in Philadelphia clubs. The name Pink came from the character Mr. Pink in Quentin Tarantino’s film “Reservoir Dogs.” Today, Pink is distinctively known for her unique raspy voice and acrobatic stage presence which earned her numerous awards under her belt.

Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj always had colorful costumes and wigs even at the beginning of her career and she became mainly known for that aside from her hit songs. She loved dressing like a Barbie doll where pink is the dominant color in most of her clothes. Even Minaj’s first studio album was named “Pink Friday,” followed by her sophomore album, “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded” and then her third studio album, “The Pinkprint.” Minaj as a powerful rapper received numerous accolades and is one of the world’s best-selling music artists.

BLACKPINK

Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa are the girls behind BLACKPINK, a South Korean girl group formed by YG Entertainment. The group debuted in August 2016 and became the first girl group that debuted under YG Entertainment in six years after 2NE1. A representative from YG revealed that the name BLACKPINK aims to contradict the common perception of the color pink. The rep also said that pink is commonly used to portray prettiness, but BLACKPINK actually means to say that ”Pretty isn’t everything.” The rep added that it symbolizes they are a team who encompasses not only beauty but also great talent.
