Lancers gun for share of lead

THE University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers will gun for a piece of the college division leadership as it takes on Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Partner’s Cup tonight in the Cebu Coliseum.

UV is on fire, winning its first two contests. The Green Lancers beat University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, 94-67, in its opener and then defeated University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars, 107-96.

Former MVP Rey Suerte has been impressive for the Green Lancers in both games, scoring 16 in the first and 18 points in the second. UV also showcased its new import, Lassina Coulibaly, who put on an impressive 24-point performance against USC.

With a win, UV will share leadership with University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters.

SWU-Phinma, in the meantime, just logged its first win in the preseason tournament after an 80-73 victory over USC, who lost John Reel Saycon in the tournament to suspension.

Shaq Imperial led the Cobras to victory with a 29-point explosion.

UC currently is at the top with 3-0. UV and University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) share second place with 2-0 slates. (EKA)
