AN outgoing barangay councilor of Calamba, Cebu City was wounded after an unidentified person shot him in Sitio Mahayahay yesterday afternoon.

The victim was identified as Hildibrando Ygonia. A resident, Rowena Pepito, was also reportedly hit by a stray bullet.

Chief Insp. Allan Rosario, chief of the San Nicolas Police, said the councilor was a staunch supporter of the police’s anti-drug campaign.

“Halimbawa, naay dakop ang tropa, siya permi atong matawag mo-witness sa inventory. Very active gyud siya,” Rosario said.

The San Nicolas Police Station received the alarm at 5:28 p.m. from a concerned citizen who saw the incident.

Authorities said that after shooting the victim a few meters away from the latter’s house, the assailant walked towards an interior area of the village.

Days before the May barangay elections, Ygonia asked the Commission on Elections to declare his barangay as a hot spot after an armed person threatened him last April 17.

His house was also vandalized.

He was also detained by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 7 after a search of his house yielded a caliber .45 pistol and a caliber .38 revolver last March 23.

He denied that he was involved in illegal drugs.

Investigators are looking into personal grudge as a possible motive, and that Ygonia’s shooting may be drug-related. (JOB, AYB of Superbalita Cebu)
