Tomas asks: A Cebuano police chief, please?

IF he had his way, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña wants Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Joel Doria to stay as the city’s police chief.

He described Senior Superintendent Doria as the best police chief the city has had because of all the accomplishments of CCPO under his watch.

“Arguably the best. That’s why it’s really unfair when the chief PNP says Cebu is a hot spot. That’s very unfair because the impression is that it’s as if the police are not doing their job well,” he said.

Although he wished Doria did not have to go, Osmeña said he will not keep the official from leaving CCPO because he also needs to be promoted.

“It’s also not fair to him because if he stays, everyone will overtake him and he’s done a good job. He should be a PNP chief if you ask me,” the mayor said.

Doria is expected to end his mandatory two-year stay as CCPO director in July.

Osmeña said he wants someone who is from Cebu to replace the police chief. (RVC)
