BCPO verifies source of P1.02-M worth of drugs

THE Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) is verifying the source of illegal drugs worth P1,020,000 that was recovered from a newly-identified drug personality and a high-value target in a drug bust at Barangay Granada, Bacolod City on Thursday, May 14.

Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo, acting city director of BCPO, said in a press conference Friday, that Myla Velano, 31, of Barangay Singcang-Airport, refused to divulge her source. But police found out that her partner is imprisoned at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City for more than five years now, also for drug charges. Her sibling is also in jail for the same offense.

Earlier, Inspector Adrian James Albaytar, assistant team leader of City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU), said they are still verifying if the items are being sourced out inside the national penitentiary.

Velano allegedly gets her supply through her partner's contact.

On June 21, Velano was arrested in a drug bust at Barangay Granada after police received complaints from the community about her alleged drug trade. She yielded 17 sachets of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) weighing 85 grams, weighing scale, and the P2,000 marked money during the police operation.

Velano has been reportedly engaging in the illegal drug trade for one and a half years and distributes the contraband in Bacolod and neighboring cities of Talisay and Silay.

Police are preparing the filing of the criminal complaint about the sale and illegal possession of dangerous drugs against Velano, who is detained at Police Station 5.

Meanwhile, Ebreo said the supply of illegal drugs in the city somehow reduced following the big recovery of drugs in buy-bust operations and the neutralization of high-value target drug personalities like Ramy Poja, who was killed in a shootout with police operatives in Barangay Banago on May 24.

However, Ebreo said police will still continue to step up their anti-illegal drug campaign to track down more high-value drug personalities in the city. (GYM/SunStar Bacolod)
