IT'S an annual activity for SunStar Davao that the few assigned to attend look forward to: the Brigada Eskwela at the chosen school for the year.

Last June 13, 2018, the crew from SunStar Davao led by its general manager Tessie Me Alcoriza loaded into a jeepney to deliver school supplies and snacks to pupils and faculty of Bayanihan Elementary School in Barangay Baganihan, Marilog District in Davao City.

While the elementary school with 176 pupils from Kinder to Grade 6 is just along the Davao-Bukidnon Highway, 80 percent of its population are from indigenous tribes, majority of whom are of the Matigsalug tribe.

School head is Ferdinand Peralta, who also handles the sixth grade, with six other teachers under him.

The other teachers and their grade assignments are: Analyn Abergonzado for Kinder, Maria Fe Cumamao for Grade 1, Alyn de Guzman for Grade 2, Girlie Bacquiano for Grade 3, Aida Rodriguez for Grade 4, and Jhona Badayos for Grade 5.

There was an air of excitement in the air as the children awaited their treat and school supplies, but first, a thanksgiving prayer and some cheering.

As there was more than enough arroz caldo and packed snacks to share to some other children and the parents who were present.
