City to use private funds for skate park

THE Cebu City Government will use private funds to hasten the construction of a skate park in the South Road Properties (SRP), Mayor Tomas Osmeña announced.

In his news conference last Thursday, Osmeña said he wants the property to be up this year.

“We’re going to start the skate park with private funds. I want it up immediately. We will just have some people come in and build it,” he said.

His sister, Minnie Osmeña, is contributing $100,000, which is equivalent to over P5 million, for the construction of the skate park, he said.

Although funds for the skate park are from the private sector, Osmeña said the City will still own the property.

Osmeña said it is faster to use private funds for the construction of the facility because the project will no longer go through government processes.

The mayor said the skate park will be built within the 26-hectare lot in the SRP that used to be the property three giant developers bought.

Osmeña said the City will use the lots that were initially bought by the consortium of Ayala Land Inc., SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SMPHI) and Filinvest Land Inc., saying there was no legitimate sale of the lots.

The City awarded the lot to the consortium last July 21, 2015.

The deal was closed for P16.76 billion.

Of the 45.2 hectares opened for bidding, 26 has. were bought by the consortium of Ayala and SM, while 19.2 has. were bought by Filinvest.

However, Filinvest has rescinded the contract of the sale. (RVC)
