Sasmuan LGU employee nabbed in drug bust

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Another employee of the local government, this time of Sasmuan town, was arrested by the local police for allegedly peddling illegal drugs in the area.

The suspect identified as Russel Mangalindan, 46, who is detailed at the Office of the Vice Mayor in this town, was collared by town’s Station Drug Enforcement Unit after he allegedly sold a sachet of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as “shabu,” to a police asset.

Based on a spot report sent to Police Regional Office III Director Chief Superintendent Amador Corpus, an anonymous source allegedly tipped to police the involvement of Mangalindan in the proliferation of illegal drugs in the community.

Mangalindan, who was listed as high-value target of local police police, became the subject of a buy-bust operation conducted in Barangay Sta. Lucia in Sasmuan town.

During the operation, Mangalindan allegedly seemed to have sense that he was dealing with police asset and tried to escape using his motorcycle but was collared by police in Barangay Bancal in nearby Guagua town.

Mangalindan is now under the custody of the Sasmuan police and charged for violation of Sections 5 and 11 of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
