Lupian, Moulic move on in Asean chess tilt

NATIONAL Master (NM) Alexander Lupian and Ella Grace Moulic hanged on to the second spot to remain in contention for title in the ongoing 19th Asean+ Age Group Chess Championships standard event in The Royal Mandaya Hotel.

Last Saturday afternoon, Lupian tallied 5.0 points after forcing a tie in his seventh round match with Thai Hung Tong of Vietnam, who is currently at the leader in the Seniors 50 and Seniors 65 division, in round seven Saturday afternoon.

Moulic, a chess varsity of De La Salle University, secured a total of 5.0 points, just a point behind the girls 20 division leader Women Fide Master (WFM) Shania Mae Mendoza who has 6.0 points.

Her seventh round game against Thi Thuy Tien Vo of Vietnam on Sunday, June 24, ended in a draw.

Placing at the third spot in her division is Women Candidate Master (WCM) Kylen Joy Mordido who tallies 4.5.

Meanwhile, International Master (IM) John Marvin Miciano occupied the fourth spot in the under 20 division with 5.0 points.

Miciano drew with FM Agni Jeevitesh J Sai of India, who is currently placed third in the division, in their eighth round encounter on Sunday.

IM Paulo Bersamina leads the division with 7.0 points trailed by Azarya Jodi Setyaki with 6.0 points.

Yngayo, on the other hand, placed at the fifth spot with 4.5 points after round seven on Sunday.

She lost her seventh round game against Goc Thuy Doung Bach, who currenty leads the girls 16 division with 6.5 points.
