THE Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Negros Occidental-North conducted an outreach program dubbed "Handog sa Kabataan sang Benepisyaryo sang Repormang Agraryo" at Barangay San Miguel Elementary School covered court in Murcia town on Saturday, June 23.

This is in line with the month-long celebration of the 30th anniversary of the implementation of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) in the country.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II Teresita Mabunay led the distribution of school gift packages to 75 students, five to 17 years old, from elementary and high schools in Barangays San Miguel and Minoyan.

The packages include bag, school supplies, raincoat, cap and umbrella, among others.

The recipients were children of agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) from the said barangays.

San Miguel Elementary School Principal Elizabeth Makilan expressed her appreciation to the agency.

In her message, Makilan noted that government-awarded lands must be cultivated to be productive and should not be leased.

Minoyan Elementary School Principal Luzviminda Dela Cruz, for her part, affirmed the success of the government's effort in alleviating poverty among farmer-beneficiaries in their barangay.

Moreover, the activity was also attended by other DAR officials and personnel led by Chief Agrarian Reform Program Officer of Land Tenure Improvement Division Engineer Ignacio Cabayao Jr. and Barangay San Miguel Captain Dante Lastre. (PR)
