Lacson backs anti-tambay policy

NEGROS Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson is backing the national government’s crackdown against the “tambays” or street loiterers.

"I think it is also respecting others in your community. There are hours when other people would already like to rest and they expect silence so to be in a group in a road, I agree with that policy," Lacson said.

He said that if there are celebrations, everyone should do it on their premises and not in public places. There are also public areas where anyone can celebrate, he added.

President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered a general crackdown on “tambays” to reduce street crime.

However, the directive is raising concerns from Filipinos.

The president declared that he will impose stricter measures to deal with “tambays” because “they are potential trouble for the public,” showing his tough stance on criminality.

On arming the village officials, Lacson said it has been in the Local Government Code.

"It is not only arming them but it has to be licensed and they have to go through a test before they are allowed to carry firearms. It has a law that governs them. They have to pass through the test," Lacson pointed out.

He said that like any other citizen, the bottom line is you have to be a responsible gun owner.
