Bacolod crimes down by 33 percent in 20 days

THE crimes in Bacolod City had reduced by 33 percent from June 1 to 20 this year.

Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo, acting director of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said a total of 152 crimes were recorded this year compared to last year's 228, with a drop of 76 incidents.

Index crimes or eight focus crimes also decreased by seven cases or 28.07 percent with 41 incidents in 2018 as against the 57 cases recorded in 2017.

Index crimes include homicide, murder, physical injuries, rape, carnapping, motornapping, theft, and robbery.

Police initiated operations increased by 20 or 57.14 percent, with 55 operations this year compared to last year's 35.

Meanwhile, more operations were conducted against illegal gambling, with an increase of 18 or 180 percent.

The campaign against loose firearms also increased by three or 100 percent, with six operations this year.

For the campaign against illegal drugs, 22 operations were conducted with 35 arrested persons and 67 cases filed.

Of the 35 arrested persons, one was a high-value target, two were a street-level target and 32 others were newly identified drug personalities.

Police were able to seize 34.967 grams of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) amounting to P524,505.

For illegal gambling, 29 operations were conducted that resulted in the apprehension of 101 persons and filing of 101 cases.

Police also arrested five most wanted persons and 11 other wanted persons.

Ebreo said the information campaign also contributed to the accomplishments of the BCPO.

"We are aiming not just to reduce index crimes but also to decrease the people's fear," Ebreo added.
